Phil Neville’s truly shocking two minutes of analysis on Match of the Day is hilarious

Phil Neville’s truly shocking two minutes of analysis on Match of the Day is hilarious

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone — Malcom plays for Barcelona, not Everton.

Phil Neville joined Ian Wright and Gary Lineker for the second Match of the Day of the season on Saturday night and it’s fair to say he lost his head for a couple of minutes.

Following highlights of Everton’s 2-1 win over Southampton, the ex-England internationals spent a short time analysing the game in customary fashion.

However, Neville was evidently giddy about his former side’s positive start to the season, as he dropped a string of clangers.

59 England caps but not even the best player or pundit in his familyPA:Press Association

Worst of the lot was his assessment of the Toffee’s deadline day activity, in which he listed Malcom as one of Marco Silva’s newest recruits.

That’s the same Malcom who signed for Barcelona for £36.5million on July 24th.

Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina all swapped Catalonia for Merseyside in the summer so perhaps Neville simply lost track of all the Barcelona imports.

Picture not taken at Goodison parkGetty - Contributor

The details of the game also escaped the England Women’s manager (how did he get that job again?) while the BBC cameras were rolling.

He said Richarlison’s goal was Everton’s first of the game, when actually Theo Walcott had opened the scoring 16 minutes before the Brazilian’s strike.

Neville then managed to mistake Richarlison for Turkish striker Cenk Tosun.

Keeping Malcom out the teamReuters

To cap off his mini-disasterclass, Neville speculated whether this season could be ‘Everton’s year’.

Quite what he meant by that, we’re not sure.

Such language is usually reserved for title hopefuls, such as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Surely Neville doesn’t think Everton have what it takes to dethrone Man City, does he?

HahahahahahaahGetty Images - Getty

All in all, two minutes to forget for the six-time Premier League winner.

Incredible display from Phil Neville on MOTD: called Richarlison’s goal the first goal of the game; picked a rare bad Siggy pass as a good one & capped it off by saying we’d signed Malcolm, before declaring it “Everton’s year”.

Why we shouldn’t have been surprised by Jorginho’s outrageous penalty technique

Dream Team FC
Why we shouldn’t have been surprised by Jorginho’s outrageous penalty technique

It was a highlight of the Premier League’s opening weekend.

We all knew that Chelsea’s Italian maestro Jorginho was an unbelieveably class act.

After all, Man City and Pep Guardiola were desperate to sign him from Napoli. Therefore he must be pretty good.

AFP or Licensors “Where are you going? City is that way!”[/caption]

What we rather naively failed to notice about Jorginho’s game however is that he has an unbelievable track-record of tucking away penalties, and doing so in some style too.

We saw the 26-year-old convert from 12-yards in Chelsea’s opening game of the season at Huddersfield, in what was the coolest thing you saw all weekend.

The little hop in his run-up to the spot-kick had everyone drooling. We still can’t stop bloody watching it.

Reuters Got some serious air on that hop[/caption]

It’s not the first time that Jorginho has done this.

One eagled-eyed Reddit user has pointed out that the unusual, yet effective technique of Jorginho from the spot was actually a regular occurrence during his time with Napoli.

Seeing double

The video shows the midfielder converting three penalties during his time at Napoli, in which he uses the exact same technique that we saw against Huddersfield.

Only one of the spot-kicks is saved, with the keeper then unable to hold onto the ball before Jorginho fires in the rebound.

We firmly believe that these images should hang in a museum somewhere…

He’s been making goalkeepers look silly in Serie A for years and now has his sights set on doing the same to Premier League stoppers.

We can’t wait to see how the next goalkeeper to face Jorginho from 12-yards deals with his run-up.

Yet another intriguing subplot to look out for this season…

ACT FAST – SIGN UP TO PLAY FANTASY FOOTBALL BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

In fact, with Salah, Sadio Mane and new signing Naby Keita running the show for Jurgen Klopp’s side, it’s fair to say the Hammers looked a little overwhelmed in the early stages of the match.

That was until they got a helping hand from an unlikely source; the referee, Anthony Taylor.

West Ham’s best player

And no, the man in black didn’t make a controversial call.
Instead, he actually got involved with the play, getting in the way of Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum deep in the Liverpool half and accidentally tackling the Dutch midfielder.
I guess it happens, right?

But to his horror, the ball then bounced kindly to Hammers winger Michail Antonio to play in Marko Arnautovic through on goal.
Luckily, one-on-one with Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson, the Austrian hit his shot just wide of the goal.
We imagine Taylor breathed a huge sigh of relief there.

Luckily for him, Marko forgot his scoring boots

Good thing the folks of Twitter saw the funny side, huh?

Good tackle by referee Taylor creates the chance for Arnautovic but it's missed.

Fantasy football tips: Must-have bargain strikers who will guarantee 10+ Premier League goals

Goals win games – and when it comes to fantasy football they clinch you invaluable points.

Mo Salah, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and the motley crew will guarantee you at least 15 or so – but who else can hit the dizzy heights in the Premier League this season.

Well the top dogs’ hefty prices means you might have to think outside the box and locate goals from elsewhere.

So which bargain strikers are we backing to hit double figures this season? Here’s a handful…

Fantasy football tips: Bargain strikers who will score 10+ goals 1 Aleksandar Mitrovic – £3m Getty Images - Getty

Mitro’s on fire… West London is terrified.

Yes the Serbian sensation is back at Fulham – this time for good – after firing the Cottagers to the Premier League last season.

He was mistreated at Newcastle and his strike rate at Fulham, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances, suggests there’s much more to come if he’s used correctly.

2 Cenk Tosun – £3m Getty - Contributor

Everton’s January signing managed a respectable five goals in 14 games in the league.

Tosun is a typical front man but he could be exactly what Marco silva needs to finish off the chances created by the midfield.

The best return on your investment in this list as likely to start every single game.

113 goals in 270 games in Turkey shows Tosun has a nose for the back of the net.

3 Marcus Rashford – £3m Getty - Contributor

Rashford’s season could all come down to Jose Mourinho – is he will to play the young English star regularly?

The 20-year-old has shown he can do it for England and impressed in a United shirt last season, his game against Liverpool belied his years.

Rashford scored seven goals in 35 appearances last season, although 18 of those were from the bench, and if he is allowed to mature on the pitch you could be looking at an underrated option.

4 Kelechi Iheanacho – £3m Getty - Contributor

Young, fast and could form a pretty devastating duo with Jamie Vardy in Leicester’s front line.

Showed a couple of glimpses of potential after moving to the Foxes in January with braces against Peterborough and Fleetwood in the cup and back to back goals against Spurs and Arsenal.

He’s another year older and another year sharper, time to shine.

5 Chris Wood – £3m Getty - Contributor

Scored a late equaliser at Wembley against Spurs last August which set Burnley on their way for the season.

Ended the season with 10 Premier League goals which can only be described as a brilliant return for a player who had been knocking around England’s lower leagues for the prior decade.

He might not be the most talented striker in the league but Burnley know exactly what his strengths are and play to them every time.

Why try to be something you’re not eh?
