Lewis Dunk produces tackle of the season to deny Charlie Adam tap in

There’s an awful lot of fuss about Lewis Dunk at the moment.

Chris Hughton has established a stoic and organised Brighton defence during their first Premier League campaign, with Dunk their leader at the back.

And the centre-back underlined his importance to the Seagulls with a superhuman tackle against Stoke on Saturday.

With the game finely poised at 1-1 heading into injury time, the Potters were handed a chance to grab all three points with a last-gasp penalty.

Charlie Adam’s spotkick was saved by Matty Ryan but it looked for all the world like the Scottish midfielder would tap in the rebound unguarded.

Dunk had other ideas though:

The Brighton captain, despite Adam having a six-yard head start, somehow caught up with his opponent and stuck out a leg to divert the ball wide.

It has to be said Adam’s role in the incident wasn’t great, with the six-yard box made to look like treacle as he prepared to tap the ball home.

But Dunk’s intervention could prove absolutely pivotal to Brighton come the end of the season.

A defeat would have put Stoke, who remain in the relegation zone, level on points with the Seagulls but instead the visitors now have a three-point cushion to the bottom three.

If they were to go down you can put your house on Dunk not being there next season…
